Dr. Elizabeth Barkley, Professor of Music at Foothill College,

Summit, on Thursday, November 3, 2011 with the keynote address:

Concern over student engagement has become central to conversations
regarding quality in higher education, but what does ‘student
engagement’ mean? And once we know, how do we achieve it? This
keynote will integrate theory, research, and practice to offer
college teachers a dynamic model for understanding student engagement
as well as ideas for promoting it in the online classroom.
Dr. Barkley is an educator, musician and author. She has received
numerous awards, including being selected as a Carnegie Scholar in
the discipline of music and the California Professor of the Year.
She is the author of several published articles and books,
including Student Engagement Techniques: A Handbook for College
